NDIA Plan Overview

The NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) is the government body responsible for delivering the NDIS. It determines participant eligibility and the funding each participant receives, following the National Disability Insurance Scheme 2013 guidelines.

Local Area Coordinators (LAC)

For participants aged 7 and above (or their parents if under 18), an LAC helps develop and implement their NDIS Plan. If a participant doesn't have a Support Coordinator, the LAC supports with MyNDIS portal setup and community engagement. More complex cases are escalated to a Planner.

Early Childhood Partners

Families with children aged 0–7 work with Early Childhood Partners instead of LACs. They specialize in early childhood disabilities or developmental delay and support families in helping children reach developmental milestones.

Participants 18 Years and Older

A formal application and ID verification are required. For participants under 18, the responsible party is called a Child Representative.

A Plan Nominee may be appointed to assist with NDIS decisions. Being a spouse or parent doesn’t automatically qualify someone as a nominee. A formal application and ID verification are required. For participants under 18, the responsible party is called a Child Representative.

Scenario

A child (12) with Autism and ADHD receives an NDIS Plan. During the planning meeting with an LAC, the family requests a local unregistered speech therapist. Plan Management is included to support access to this provider. Support Coordination is also included. After the plan approval, the Support Coordinator connects them to local services, while the Plan Manager ensures prompt invoice payment. Both parents are listed as representatives.
